Mission RHUMI-2024 was a
space exploration mission that launched India's first reusable
hybrid rocket from Thiruvidandhai, Tamil Nadu on August 24, 2024:
What happened
The rocket, named RHUMI-1, carried 3 Cube Satellites
and 50 PICO Satellites into suborbital space. The
satellites collected data on climate change and
global warming.
Who was involved
The mission was led by Dr. Anand Megalingam, the
founder and CEO of Space Zone India, and mentored by
Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai, the former Director of
ISRO's Satellite Centre.
What was the rocket like
The RHUMI-1 rocket was 3.5 meters tall and weighed
about 80 kilograms. It was powered by a hybrid motor
that combined solid fuel and liquid oxidizer
technologies. The rocket also had a parachute
deployer triggered electrically.
